Oracle & Tarot Use in Psychotherapy

Yes, it’s true— I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and I use tarot in psychotherapy as an intervention when it is clinically relevant and appropriate.
I view tarot from a different perspective than what you may have seen in movies or mainstream media. I am not a fortune-teller, shaman, or anything else but a psychotherapist who uses tarot from a therapeutic scope while in therapy sessions. I am also a spiritualist and I have been reading cards for quite a while.
Why Use Tarot in Psychotherapy?
As an intuitive & holistic therapist, I am a fan of interventions that are creative and outside the box. I also like to combine various well-researched modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Dialectical Therapy and Jungian Therapy, in order to provide my clients with a holistic experience.
Tarot in psychotherapy opens up the opportunity to dive deep into each modality of therapy by:
-
allowing the client to explore and tell their story through images (Narrative therapy).
-
allowing the client to explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviors (Cognitive-Behavioral therapy).
-
allowing the client to dive deep into their subconscious mind (Analytical psychology).
How is tarot used in therapy?
I use tarot in therapy similarly to how therapists use Art Therapy to help clients explore emotions, develop self-awareness, and raise self-esteem.
I use tarot in psychotherapy as a tool:
-
to help me understand you better
-
to help you express what you are feeling
-
to help you access your subconscious mind and explore themes and issues that relate to your therapy process
-
to help you access your inner wisdom, creativity, and intuition.
